The bottom board with valve, how you can start with some chunks of wood and end up with a non-dripping tap

Back to The crucial part of the Hy2U for hand washing is the self-closing tap. Much is asked of this tap. To make without machine tools, make it even possible to cut it with a knife. Water should stream out with the lightest touch and it closes without dripping when released.
If not working well, any handy person must be able to fix it, without previous knowledge or tools, so it must be very self explaining. Last but not least: there should not be the need for timber or material ordered from a carpenter. Bits of fire wood should already be good enough.

The wooden parts
The valve board assembly is put together from:
  • 2 identical flat batten or board with a length of 25 cm, a thickness of 2 cm and a with of 4 cm.
  • 2 wooden pins, about 1/2 cm thick and 7 cm long
  • The valve tube, a piece of good quality wood of 3 cm diameter and a length of 10 cm
  • The valve tube and the notch to mount it in the boards
  • Find a piece of fine-grain wood, cut it to a diameter of 3 cm and a length of 20 cm. This gives extra length for easy handling.
  • Cut a notch on both sides of the stick as shown, starting 3 cm from the end (the round top comes later)
  • Make sure that his notch fits nicely into the notch cut into the boards
  • The notch made in the valve tube now seen from the side
  • What you then get that you get a good grip on the valve tube with the boards. Now you can cut off the extra length of the stick. The valve should stick out 5 cm on the lower side and 3 cam on the top side
  • Cut some taper to the lower side of the valve tube.
  • Before making the round head and the hole, finish the fastening with wooden pins first
Note: the picture does not show the right size of the ends sticking out on top and bottom, this picture will soon be replaced.
